Be Yourself. Get A Job. That Simple.
By Bobby Romadka
I recently helped run mock interviews for a group of high school juniors and spoke with about 30 students.
Here’s what I discovered:
1. Teens are still putting their full home address on their resume — a major safety and professionalism mistake.
2. Many struggle with basic introductions like shaking hands, making eye contact, and introducing themselves confidently.
3. Most have a hard time talking about their strengths, accomplishments, and value.
But here’s the good news:
They want help. If you give them guidance without judgment, they’re eager to learn.
If you’re supporting your teen through mock interviews, keep this in mind:
1. Don’t go overboard. Too many adults turn it into a CEO-level interrogation.
2. Make the environment comfortable and encouraging. Confidence builds skill.
3. Focus on just one or two improvements at a time. Small wins add up fast.
